A bike ride to Kashid- by Klinton
This blog was posted by Klinton Rebello in 1999 when he rode long distances on his motorcycle to get away from city life. He is an avid rider and loves his motorcycles, owns a few vintage motorbikes in his collection. He has recently joined the Quest team as a fitness consultant training our guests for grueling expeditions and often leads motorcycle trips to some spectacular hide-ways.
First of all, if you've come to Kashid to party, litter & get "jiggy" with the happening crowd, go fly a kite! This place is basically a getaway for people who've had enough of city traffic & cant find a moment's peace. Kashid is reasonably priced, clean and is best left untouched, far from the city's influence.
Please, please please, PLEASE respect the locals there, treat them well & be thankful for their hospitality. Kashid is not as dirty as Juhu beach or Shivaji park so I strongly suggest you stop bullying people around just because you have a slightly more affluent lifestyle.
OKAY! Now, if you're in Bombay, the best way to explore Kashid in all its glory, is by 'BIKE'; yes 'MOTORCYCLE.' However, if you have a car and want to drive down, it's a 3 hour drive from Panvel. As for the directions--'I don't know!,' so take a map along if you feel the need. Either figure it out yourself or leave it up to the Quest guys, but refrain from pestering me!
Okay, here goes nothing. Step (1) Get to Ferry Wharf (Byculla) with your bikes, buy tickets (to Revas jetty) for your bike & yourselves & pay the guys a coupl'of bucks to get your bike on board the ferry. Sit & relax on the launch till Revas, which is roughly a 1.5 hour ferry ride- very relaxing and calming. Once there, pay the guy again to get him to get your bike off the ferry.
Now, Step (2) Ride to Alibaug- its approximately 20 minutes if you ride at a reasonable fast speed (average of above 55 kmph). Take a quick breather at Alibaug if you want to cool down those engines & give yourself a much needed break. There are a few good restaurants you can head on down to & you can even collect necessities if required.
Lastly, Step (3) Ride to Kashid, approximately 25-30 mins & ENJOY!! You'll find good, reasonable places to stay, so go kick back & forget about all your city worries. Grab a beer & enjoy the beach!!
