FAQ
What is so exciting about the Konkan Coast?
The Konkan coast covers the regions of Maharashtra, Goa, Karnataka & Kerala, which is the western coast of India. Political conditions in this region are relatively stable and constant. So far as the culture's concerned, it's rather laid back and flexible with strong coastal influences. With the influence of the Dutch, English, Spanish and Portuguese, the culture here has become more or less global, with constant scope for adjustment and acceptance. The famous cities of Bombay, Bangalore and Panaji lie along this Western Coast, which isn't as prone to storms as the East Coast. The weather here is fantastic, being more or less constant and the people are extremely warm and hospitable.
How safe are these destinations?
In all honesty, if use common sense, you’ll be fine. Would you pull a roll of cash out of your pocket in front of a crowd in New York City? No, probably not. Apply this same strategy when traveling to an unknown destination. The possibility of a crime is prominent anywhere; it's something that cannot be predicted. Hence, it's important to keep a lookout and be responsible at all times. Basically, keep your antennae up! Do not leave luggage or equipment unattended in public places and use particular precaution when exploring areas at night. If you have any concerns about a specific destination, please call us and we will try to address all of your questions.
We have a comprehensive list of all the gear that we provide and that you need to carry along. You’ll find that you already have most of the necessary items (not specialized). In some locations that we operate, weather can change quickly and quite drastically and ergo, it’s imperative to be prepared for sudden changes or glitches in plans. By following the recommended equipment list, you’ll be warm on the river and dry and comfortable in camp.

What if I get sick or injured?
All trips are equipped with a mobile phone on and off the river and coast. For each of our travel destinations, we have specific plans for evacuation in the event of an emergency. Depending on the incident, we are able to get you to a quality medical facility—either within the destination or back in your country of origin— both quickly and efficiently. Please talk to your respective representatives about purchasing the recommended travel insurance for your adventure.
What’s the best way to document the trip?
Every trip leader documents all of the action and activities of the trip. These are some of the most beautiful parts of the world and we want to give our clients the opportunity to go home with professional quality video and stills of their experience. For more information about how you can take home a trip video, please contact us.

What if I’ve never been rafting?
While no prior rafting experience is necessary as such, you will have a slight edge if you're in good physical condition. We want everyone to be able to participate fully and with all enthusiasm in every part of the trip. If you are able to prepare for the trip by exercising regularly for a month or two prior to your trip, you’ll be able to maximize your fun and adventure.
What if I’m traveling to a malaria risk zone?
While traveling in and around a malaria risk zone, you’ll want to take the following precautions.
-
Apply insect repellent to exposed skin. Although not preferred by everyone, insect repellent with a high percentage of DEET has proven to be the most effective.
-
Wear long sleeved clothing and long pants while in camp and whenever possible.
-
Use a mosquito net if you’re sleeping outdoors and not in a tent.
-
If sleeping in a tent, be sure to keep doors sealed at all times whether you’re inside of the tent or not.
-
The best way to protect yourself is to take the recommended malaria prophylaxis before, during and after your stay in the malaria risk zone. Be sure that the medication you choose is effective for the specific zone in which you’re traveling.

The weather down the Konkan Coast is extremely amiable. Not too hot, not too cold. Neither of the extremes. Since it's coastal areas we're talking about, the weather's very calm, cool, breezy, warm and light with periodic rainfall, especially during peak season. Storms are rare and none so violent or threatening to put you off. All in all, the atmosphere is very pollution-free and you'll see clear, crystal blue skies with a bright shining sun and white fluffy clouds for the most part. Ideal for when you want to get away!
