Harihareshwar Beach | Maharashtra
Harihareshwar Beach
Situated in the Raigad District of the state of Maharashtra, this temple town is enveloped by the 4 hills of Harihareshwar, Harshinachal, Bramhadri and Pushpadri. It is located 213 km south of Mumbai and takes a good, lazy 5 hours to get to.
Apart from being a religious destination, the beaches of Harihareshwar are to die for. These beaches are pretty isolated and cut off from the madness of the outside world that you’ll rarely ever find any footprints on their raw, brown sand, because all that’s really there to take in are the gorgeous waves that lash against the shore so gently, you’ll think you’re by the lakeside. The crystal clear blue sea can be seen in full view from atop the rocks that line the solitary shore. This beach sees a good bunch of tourists on most weekends.
The Kalbhairav Temple is the main tourist attraction here, taking a rough 10 odd minutes to get to and it splits the beach into 2 parts, the north side and the south side. You can also head to Bagmandala, 4kms from Harihareshwar, where you’ll get to see the Bankot Fort, once under siege by the British and Portuguese.
Cuisine here is mostly veggies, given that it’s a place of religious worship but at a few one-off dhabas (road side cafe's), you will get the opportunity to sample delicious, authentic Konkani cuisine which will include prawns, crabs, fish and the likes.
